An 'Allophone' (이음) refers to a phenomenon in which a single linguistic root takes on different physical sounds depending on its environment. Drummer and improviser Gideok Moon’s solo project, ALLOPHONE, quietly draws on this linguistic metaphor to consider how a person’s language may shift and adapt within an unfamiliar context.

The project centers on a subtle interplay between the acoustic drum—the most human and physical of instruments—and the no-input mixing board, a system that generates sound from its own internal loops. In this setting, the drum quietly signifies the artist’s identity and roots, while the electronic circuitry suggests the unfamiliar society and new environment he encounters.
